Newport Girls’ Football Club was founded in 2007 with two teams, an U12 and an U14 side. Since then we have gone from strength to strength with the club now having 5 teams for the 2015-16 season playing in the Shropshire FA league. We now also have a Ladies team playing in the Staffordshire league, allowing the girls to progress further should they wish.
Women’s and Girls’ football is the fastest growing sport in the country and with good reason. The girls enjoy the physical, technical side of the sport, taking part in competitive matches, regardless of ability and working as a team but they also love the social side. The sport gives them the opportunity to meet girls from other schools and areas that they wouldn’t ordinarily meet and the friendships formed enhance their experiences both on and off the pitch.
We train on a Friday evening between 5.00 – 6.30pm (times may vary depending on age groups). League matches are played on Saturdays and our home grounds are Burton Borough School, Tibberton and Edgmond. The club has an inclusive policy which means that every girl gets to play in matches regardless of ability. We are a Charter Standard Club which means that all our coaches are FA qualified and CRB checked.
